Do You Really Need a Coach?

August 29, 20253 min read

Picture Serena Williams, tennis’s queen, smashing a forehand to clinch her 23rd Grand Slam singles title. With 23 Slams, she’s a legend who redefined the sport. Yet, even Serena leaned on coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who helped her win 10 of those titles by sharpening her strategy and mindset. As she put it, “Patrick sees things I don’t see and pushes me to be better” (Vogue, 2015). If Serena needed a coach to soar, why do we think we can run our businesses alone? Welcome to our Coaching for Champions series, where we’ll unpack why coaching could be your game-changer.

We get it. You’re the expert in your field. You’ve built your company from scratch, and nobody knows your industry like you. Hiring a coach might feel like admitting you’re not enough—like someone’s going to try to run your show. But here’s the truth: we’re not here because you’re failing. We’re here to make you unstoppable, just like a coach did for Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella. If he needed coaching to lead with purpose (Forbes, 2017), how much more could we benefit?

Why the Skepticism?

In our government and coaching work, we’ve seen brilliant leaders hesitate at “coach.” “I know my stuff,” they say. “Why pay someone to tell me what I know?” Sound familiar? It’s natural—you’ve poured years into your business, and you’re darn good at it. That’s exactly why we’re valuable. We’re not here to out-expert you; we’re here to spot what’s hiding in plain sight, like a coach watching from the sidelines.

Take Gregg Popovich, the San Antonio Spurs’ legend with five NBA titles. Popovich wouldn’t stand a chance against even the bench players in a one-on-one at 76, but his system turned a late draft pick like Tony Parker into a Finals MVP (CBSSports, 2025). Or consider Mike Krzyzewski, Duke’s icon, who molded Zion Williamson into a top NBA draft pick. Coach K would’ve been dunked on by Zion, yet his vision made stars shine (goduke.com). We don’t need to be better than you—we need to see what you can’t.

The Wins You Get from Coaching

What do we bring to your table? Here’s the good stuff:

  • Clarity: Stuck in the grind? We help you set goals and map the path.

  • Accountability: Dreams fizzle without follow-through. We keep you on track.

  • Blind Spot Radar: You’re too close to see everything. We spot opportunities or pitfalls.

  • Confidence Boost: We challenge you to step boldly into your goals.

A 2019 study by the International Coaching Federation found that 86% of organizations with coaching programs saw a positive return, with better performance and engagement (ICF Global Coaching Client Study, 2019). That’s not hype—it’s proof coaching works when you lean in.

A Faith-Fueled Perspective

As Christians, we’re called to steward our gifts, whether running a business or serving others. Proverbs 15:22 says, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” But Proverbs 19:20 urges us to choose wisely, accepting discipline from the right voices. Seeking a coach who fits your values and God’s purpose isn’t doubting your abilities—it’s humbly inviting wisdom to live out your calling. It’s saying, “God, help me use what You’ve given me to the fullest.”

Your Next Step

Coaching isn’t about fixing what’s broken; it’s about amplifying what’s possible. Whether you’re stuck, scaling, or ready to level up, we could be the partner to get you there. So, here’s our challenge: think about one area in your work where you’re not hitting the mark. Could an outside perspective help? Drop a comment below—we’d love to hear your thoughts!
